The Adam J. Garvin Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Adam Garvin, who was beginning his Junior year at the University of Pittsburgh. He was majoring in mechanical engineering and aspired to enter the field of aeronautics.
Adam was a member of the Plum high school class of 2019. During the 2018 Mustang football season, he earned recognition of team captain, not so much for his talent and agility on the field, but for his enthusiasm, HEART and his ability to motivate and encourage others. His love for his Mustang football brothers was as strong as his love for learning. He also represented Plum Mustangs in Track and Field as well as Rifle teams and maintained superior grades throughout his high school career. He was a model scholar and athlete.
Adam’s interests were many and varied. Outside his roles as a student and a standout athlete, Adam was a talented guitarist, a motorcycle enthusiast, and a future pilot. He had an infectious sense of humor, always wanting others to feel happy. He graciously accepted all people and all life’s opportunities with kindness and respect, which is why he was known for having a BIG HEART. He was on his way to being a future contributor to our society, without a doubt.
On August 28, 2021, Adam tragically lost his life while riding his beloved motorcycle after being struck by a reckless driver who failed to obey a stop sign.
In honor of his beautiful life, his big heart and his pride in wearing #68, Adam’s family and friends established this scholarship with the goal of rewarding Plum High School seniors who demonstrate similar qualities an opportunity to offset college expenses.
The award is intended to recognize a student who demonstrates excellence in academics, dedication to athletics or other activities/causes they feel passionate about. They should also demonstrate some of the qualities Adam had; enthusiasm, passion to motivate and encourage others and a sincere kindness that this world needs much more of.
The hope is for the scholarship winner to graduate, become engaged in a productive career and become a valiant contributor to society. Adam’s family and friends hope this individual will continue to honor Adam’s high school career legacy by excelling in their field of choice and provide future students a similar financial opportunity.
The winner will be awarded a $2500 scholarship.
Applications will be reviewed by Adam’s family for final determination. Applications due in the guidance office by April 1.
